Few people realize that what Jesus expects of us in our walk with Him, He demonstrated in His earthly walk as a man with His heavenly Father.
And I was reminded of that again this week in chapter 38 of The Indwelling Life of Christ: All of Him in All of Me by Major W. Ian Thomas. Please read and consider this brief excerpt …
“The Christian life is not about our own capacity and ability, but about God’s; not about who we are, but who He is; not about what we have to offer, but what He offers, which is all of Himself, if only we are as available to Christ as Christ was available to His Father.
All of the Father was available to all of the Son, because by His faith-love relationship, all of the Son was available to all of the Father; this is what constituted His perfect Manhood. In the same way, the availability of the Son to you will be experienced to the degree of your availability to the Son, because of your faith-love relationship to Him,”
Perhaps you have heard it taught or said that Jesus was 100% man and 100% God, but what exactly does that mean? I mean really mathematically speaking how do you explain that?
Well, I’ve spent a number of years wrestling with it … ever since the first time I heard it at a camp as a Young Life leader …
So here is my cut at an explanation … test it, test it, test it! I’ll unwrap it biblically in the coming days.
Jesus was conceived in His mother Mary’s womb by His heavenly Father via the Holy Spirit and born as 100% man … the last Adam. What the first Adam failed to do as 100% man, the last Adam would succeed in doing as 100% man by being 100% available, surrendered, and submitted to God the Father … resulting in God living 100% IN and THRU His only begotten Son. In His love/faith relationship with His heavenly Father … Jesus, Father and Holy Spirit were united as one. Jesus was not under obligation and without choice in this … He loved, trusted, surrendered and submitted to His heavenly Father of His own accord being fully obedient to all His Father commanded Him to do. What Jesus accomplished in this world was not a result of being born with inherent divine power, but as a result of the relationship He entered into with His Father as a man. The divine power the world observed was a result of the Father living IN and THRU Him via the Holy Spirit IN their mutually abiding relationship … a divine power Jesus expected to be seen by the world in even greater magnitude as a result of Jesus living IN and THRU His followers via the Holy Spirit IN their mutually abiding relationship.
Well, I may be responsible for the keystrokes … but even I need to stop and really consider what was just recorded … Biblical correction, as needed, will indeed be greatly appreciated. (Please note: the above paragraph is a work in process and is being revised based on subsequent study, convictions of the Spirit and the input of trusted brothers. Subsequent post will reveal the revisions).
