the ungodly alliance of world and flesh

Today let’s continue the conversation begun yesterday in the post unequally yoked withIN … and this conversation, Lord willing, may continue down a few rabbit holes over the next couple of days.

Too often we look at the world through rose colored glasses falsely believing it has an inherent good and that by our efforts we can make it a better place … some going so far as to believe utopia is even possible. Yet to believe in such things is to believe a lie …

It is very critical to understand that our flesh is tightly intertwined with the world … the world seeks to tempt the flesh, gratify the flesh, control the flesh … all according to the lies and deceptions of the prince of the power of the air (Eph 2:2). Yes, the devil has a very powerful marketing and advertising program intended to excite, tempt and satisfy the flesh … the success of his endeavors is called sin and death.

We know that we are from God, and the WHOLE WORLD LIES IN THE POWER OF THE EVIL ONE. 1 John 5:19 (ESV)

The WHOLE world lies in the power of the evil one aka Satan aka the devil

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For ALL THAT IS IN THE WORLD—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—IS NOT FROM THE FATHER but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. 1 John 2:15-17 (ESV)

ALL that is in the world is NOT from the Father and is passing away … perishing … the world and the flesh is destined for the wrath of God … of God!

And we need to understand … to grasp … to embrace the testimony of Jesus about the world …

The world … hates me because I testify about it THAT ITS WORKS ARE EVIL. John 7:7 (ESV)

The works of the world are EVIL.

We all need to understand that the world is not our home (Hebrews 11:13-16) … and that mindset can be extremely challenging to change

But don’t even for a moment take the three bolded points above to mean that we are without hope. We are abounding IN hope!

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. John 16:33 (ESV)

Jesus has overcome the world.

For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. For EVERYONE who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 1 John 5:3-5 (ESV)

EVERYONE who believes that Jesus is the Son of God and is born-again overcomes the world.

Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is IN you is greater than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4 (ESV)

GREATER is Jesus who abides IN you and me than the evil one who abides in the world.

OK, so why oh why are we then living in this dangerous world? The answers might surprise you … Lord willing … to be continued …

About bwebbjr

A grandfather, father, husband, man, and a child of God who is following Christ Jesus and working out his salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work IN me, both to will and to work for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:12-13). I dodged my first bullet with cancer when a cancerous polyp was removed in a sigmoid colectomy surgery in August 2007. Four years later, in the midst of a second colectomy surgery we discovered I had Stage IV metastatic colon cancer. Rather than colectomy surgery I had colostomy surgery, which now means the colostomy bag is a part of my everyday life ... with the emphasis on life. God has given us a peace beyond understanding as my wife and I have traveled this journey. By the grace of God I am blessed to be a 6 plus year cancer survivor aka warrior. In writing, I am often wrestling with my own personal struggles and beliefs and in the midst God leads me to a lesson He wants me to learn ... or sometimes He simply touches me in the revelation of Himself. My hope is that the result you see here might touch your heart and glorify God. And let me be clear ... I am not the only one with something to say. Please join in the conversation sharing your faith, your cancer experiences, etc. I would love to hear from you. Bernie

It can be discouraging knowing that we live in the midst of evil. But your words are a reminder that this is temporary, and our home is in the arms of God. Thank you.

I think not only discouraging but also confusing … remembering we are aliens and pilgrims in this world is so critical in our walk of faith home. Have a blessed day Julie!
