what creation has to do with Jesus

Hopefully you read yesterday’s post … if not, I would suggest reading why the creation vs evolution argument matters … in that post, please note my definition of evolution.  For some folks, that may prompt the following question …

What does creation have to do with Jesus?

Some will say I believe in evolution and I believe in Jesus … while I won’t say they are wrong, IMHO I can’t help but think there is an issue with that combination of beliefs.  Yes, that’s personal opinion and personal conviction based on what I see in Scripture … please consider the opening words of the gospel of John … remembering that the Word is Jesus

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with GodALL things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.  John 1:1-3 (NASB)

How ‘ bout the Webb paraphrase …

In the beginning was Jesus, and Jesus was with God, and Jesus was God.  Jesus was in the beginning with God.  ALL things came into being through Jesus, and apart from Jesus nothing came into being that has come into being.

(Note: it may be helpful to take a look at Genesis 1:1, 26a, John 15:5 … for me; they add power and insight into the verses above).

Once more … ALL things came into being through Jesus Christ

… yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom ALL things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom ALL things came and through whom we live.  1 Corinthians 8:6 (NIV)

By Jesus ALL things were created … ALL things have been created through JesusALL things have been created for JesusJesus is before ALL things … ALL things hold together IN Jesus

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of ALL creation.  For by Him ALL things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities–ALL things have been created through Him and for HimHe is before ALL things, and IN Him ALLthings hold together.  Colossians 1:15-17 (NASB)

Once again, through Jesus, God made the world …

God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.  Hebrews 1:1-2 (NASB)

You and I are the workmanship of God, created IN Christ Jesus for good works (remember that last part … it may be important in the next post)

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.  For we are His workmanship, created IN Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.  Ephesians 2:8-10 (NASB)

Are you beginning to get a glimpse into the creation-Jesus connection?

A couple of verses that seem to speak to the topic of evolution might also be helpful …

By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.  Hebrews 11:3 (NASB)

It is by faith … God-given faith … that we believe and understand that God spoke the world into existence (check out the eight occurrences of ‘Then God said, “Let …” in Genesis 1’).  It is also by faith … God-given faith … that we believe and understand that what exists was not made out of other existing and visible things (that throws a real monkey wrench in evolution for believers … sorry ‘bout the pun!)

Also consider …

Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.”  For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water, through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water.  2 Peter 3:3-6 (NASB)

Based on the verses that follow verse 3 above, it is not much of a leap to align evolutionists with the foretold mockers.  Why?  Because rather than acknowledge the biblical truth that the flood of Genesis 7 actually created most of the sedimentary layers we see all over the world (one confirmation of this was discovered in the scientific observation, research and analysis of the Mount St. Helens eruption), the evolutionists ignore the flood and claim that each sedimentary layer takes millions of years to form  and ‘that all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation’ … actually scratch that last part and probably replace it with ‘from the big bang’ … no creator … no creation …

Yesterday … why the creation vs evolution argument matters

Today … what creation has to do with Jesus

Wonder what’s next?

About bwebbjr

A grandfather, father, husband, man, and a child of God who is following Christ Jesus and working out his salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work IN me, both to will and to work for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:12-13). I dodged my first bullet with cancer when a cancerous polyp was removed in a sigmoid colectomy surgery in August 2007. Four years later, in the midst of a second colectomy surgery we discovered I had Stage IV metastatic colon cancer. Rather than colectomy surgery I had colostomy surgery, which now means the colostomy bag is a part of my everyday life ... with the emphasis on life. God has given us a peace beyond understanding as my wife and I have traveled this journey. By the grace of God I am blessed to be a 6 plus year cancer survivor aka warrior. In writing, I am often wrestling with my own personal struggles and beliefs and in the midst God leads me to a lesson He wants me to learn ... or sometimes He simply touches me in the revelation of Himself. My hope is that the result you see here might touch your heart and glorify God. And let me be clear ... I am not the only one with something to say. Please join in the conversation sharing your faith, your cancer experiences, etc. I would love to hear from you. Bernie
