Today I am simply overwhelmed by what God reveals in just five lil’ power packed verses in the first chapter of John.
9 There was the true Light
And that true Light was Jesus Christ … the Light of the world.
which, coming into the world
From the heavenly realm of Father God, a Lamb sent to slaughter … the Son was sent into this world … this world corrupted by sin, condemned to death and held captive by the father of lies … the devil.
enlightens every man.
Only the true Light gives true enlightenment … not the counterfeit offered and embraced by men and the world.
10 He was in the world,
Christ Jesus … the Son of God … the Light of the world … was in the world … enemy territory …
and the world was made through Him,
He was in the world created through and for Him.
and the world did not know Him.
Yet His creation did not know its Creator.
11 He came to His own,
Jesus came to Israel … to the Jewish children God had set apart as His own.
and those who were His own did not receive Him.
And yet those prideful children of Israel did not receive Him who God had sent to them … the gift He was giving them … the rescue and salvation they were longing and looking for.
12 But as many as received Him,
But some … both Jew and Gentile … did receive the gift of Light and life the heavenly Father sent.
to them He gave the right to become children of God,
To those who received the given Christ Jesus, God gave the right … the right … to become His children and heirs … to them He became Abba Father.
even to those who believe in His name,
They received Christ Jesus by believing in His name … believing being head and heart acknowledgment and day-to-day life decisions, words, responses and actions based on faith … on trust … IN God through Christ Jesus. The receiving of God’s gift restored a trust broken by Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and reconciled the children with God their Father. And they were baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Spirit.
13 who were born, not of blood (but of God)
These believers were born-again of God … of the Holy Spirit. A fleshly birth … the act of physical circumcision … both are of the blood and man … not of God.
nor of the will of the flesh
It is not the will of the flesh that causes one to receive Jesus and be born-again … so often the flesh sees this God gift as insurance not assurance in the face of the coming wrath of God … and Scripture clearly reveals that the flesh and the Spirit are at odds with each other … the flesh frequently attempting to deceive the Spirit.
nor of the will of man,
It is not the will of man via persuasive arguments and invitations … it is not the will of man deciding that Jesus should be a part of his life … man is always seeking a way of escape … not so much from the snare of the devil as from eternal death. God does not want part of one’s life … He demands all.
but of (the will of) God.
God has charted a plan of rescue … He chose His children IN Christ before the foundation of the world, the Father draws His lost children unto His Son Christ Jesus, and when they receive His gift … the free gift of eternal life IN Christ Jesus … they are born-again of the Spirit. For man to come to Jesus in any other way is impossible. By the will … and grace … of God … His children are being saved.
