the God choice

God is pro-choice.

Please don’t get upset … I’m not talking about from an abortion perspective.

No, what I mean is ‘God has given man a choice to make … either choose to love, worship and follow God … or not’.

While man does indeed have the option to choose … choices always have consequences.

The consequences of choosing God include blessings and life.  The consequences of not choosing God include curses and death.

As Christians, we understand that and have chosen God.  But oftentimes we are more than willing to point out the error of their ways to those who have not yet chosen God through Christ Jesus.

Yet while we are quick to embrace and declare the consequences of the God choice to the world around us based on what is revealed in Scripture, we tend to ignore and refuse to believe what that same Scripture tells us about the response of the world to Christians as a result of our commitment to follow Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Consider …

But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he CANNOT understand them.  1 Corinthians 2:14 (NASB)

We can debate the world around us until we are blue in the face … but what we believe is foolishness to them … they CANNOT … apart from Christ … understand spiritual things.  So our anger and frustration with them actually becomes IMHO a faith issue … a lack of truly understanding and embracing what God has revealed to us by His Spirit through His words.

The wisdom of God is at odds with the wisdom of the world.  God has made the wisdom of the world foolishness (1 Corinthians 1:20) and the worldly wisdom based on craftiness is declared useless (1 Corinthians 3:19-20) while the world sees the wisdom of God as foolishness … a foolishness through which God is well-pleased to save those who believe (1 Corinthians 1:21).

But the issue is not limited to just foolishness and a lack of understanding …and the apostle John even warned us not to be surprised …

Do not be surprised, brethren, if the world hates you.  1 John 3:13 (NASB)

We often seem surprised that the world … the culture … around us hates Christians.  Yet Scripture repeatedly tells us to expect it … in fact, that hate almost seems to be a confirmation of true belief IN Christ Jesus and the words of God.

If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you.  If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.”  John 15:18-19 (NASB)

“I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.”  John 17:14 (NASB)

So what is the Christian response when the world cannot understand what we believe … when the world sees us as foolish … when the world hates us?

Do we let the world shape our response … fighting fire with fire?

Or has Jesus already revealed what Christians should expect and how we should respond?

About bwebbjr

A grandfather, father, husband, man, and a child of God who is following Christ Jesus and working out his salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work IN me, both to will and to work for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:12-13). I dodged my first bullet with cancer when a cancerous polyp was removed in a sigmoid colectomy surgery in August 2007. Four years later, in the midst of a second colectomy surgery we discovered I had Stage IV metastatic colon cancer. Rather than colectomy surgery I had colostomy surgery, which now means the colostomy bag is a part of my everyday life ... with the emphasis on life. God has given us a peace beyond understanding as my wife and I have traveled this journey. By the grace of God I am blessed to be a 6 plus year cancer survivor aka warrior. In writing, I am often wrestling with my own personal struggles and beliefs and in the midst God leads me to a lesson He wants me to learn ... or sometimes He simply touches me in the revelation of Himself. My hope is that the result you see here might touch your heart and glorify God. And let me be clear ... I am not the only one with something to say. Please join in the conversation sharing your faith, your cancer experiences, etc. I would love to hear from you. Bernie

Bernie, why should we ever expect our foes to be persuaded by our scriptural arguements and platitudes? To the foe our position is foolishness. To us it is the power of God to convict and to save. I pray for enlightenment akin to the day of Pentecost where thousands heard and considered what they heard as good news and not foolishness. Jim
