What if I told you that, as believers, we are to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus? What if the words of God told you that?
Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves. Each of us is to please his neighbor for his good, to his edification. For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached You fell on Me.” For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, so that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted us to the glory of God. Romans 14:1-7 (NASB)
What if the words of God also told you that, as believers, we are to stand firm in one spirit with one mind?
Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; in no way alarmed by your opponents–which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God. Philippians 1:27-28 (NASB)
What if the words of God were so bold as to also tell us that, as believers, we have the mind of Christ Jesus?
Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away; but we speak God’s wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory; the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it they would not have crucified the Lord of glory; but just as it is written, “Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, And which have not entered the heart of man, All that God has prepared for those who love Him.” For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one. For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he will instruct Him? But WE HAVE THE MIND OF CHRIST. 1 Corinthians 2:6-16 (NASB)
In the above passages, what do we see as the characteristics of the mind of Christ?
- As believers, we have been given the Spirit of God
- We are to accept one another, pleasing our neighbor, for his good and edification.
- IN one accord with one voice, we are to glorify God.
- As believers together, we are to stand firm IN one spirit with one mind.
- We are in no way alarmed by our opponents.
- We speak wisdom among those who are mature.
- To unbelievers, we speak God’s wisdom as a mystery.
- God reveals His wisdom and mysteries through the Holy Spirit.
- The Spirit of God reveals the thoughts of God.
- We speak words not taught by human wisdom, but in words taught by the Holy Spirit.
- As believers, we are called to spiritually appraise ALL things, yet we are appraised by no one.
- The Holy Spirit instructs us IN the mind of the Lord.
- WE HAVE THE MIND OF CHRIST! WOW! WOW! WOW!
IMHO … it would seem to me that as believers IN Christ Jesus, indwelled by the Holy Spirit and equipped with the mind of Christ; embracing the words of God should be an adventure we are eager to embark upon.
