Nobel prize for physics to ‘The God particle’ … really?

Did you see this headline today?

Discovers of Higgs boson, a.k.a. “the God particle,” awarded Nobel Prize in Physics (link:–the-god-particle-awarded-nobel-prize-in-physics/  )

A couple of excerpts from the article:

Francois Englert of Belgium and Peter Higgs of Britain won the 2013 Nobel Prize in physics on Tuesday for their theoretical discoveries on how subatomic particles acquire mass.

Later in the article:

Finding the particle – often referred to as the “God particle” – required teams of thousands of scientists and mountains of data from trillions of colliding protons in the world’s biggest atom smasher – CERN’s Large Hadron Collider. The device produces energies simulating those 1 trillionth to 2 trillionths of a second after the Big Bang.

(BW: How exactly could scientists know how much energy to a very specific 1 trillionth to 2 trillionths of a second a theoretical event that is estimated to have occurred nearly 14 billion years ago would have generated?)

Following a link to the below article provides a little more insight into defining what ‘The God particle’ is actually theorized to be …

“God particle”: Why the Higgs boson matters (link:  )

Here are some explanatory passages from that article …

With all the information surrounding the official discovery of the Higgs boson, it can be difficult to appreciate how this innovation can impact the average person. However, to understand why the so-called “God particle” is so crucial, and why so many scientists are celebrating, you must understand where it came from.

The Higgs boson is often called “the God particle” because it’s said to be what caused the “Big Bang” that created our universe many years ago. The nickname caught on so quickly (even though scientists and clergy alike do not care for it) partly because it’s a great explanation of what it’s supposed to do — the Higgs boson is what joins everything and gives it matter.

Just so you understand … this discovery has absolutely nothing to do with almighty God … especially as interpreted by the scientists here.  This is about a little ‘g’ god … a false god … not the BIG ‘G’ GOD of the universe.

This so-called discovery serves the purposes of the false god of the big bang (little ‘b’s), billions of years and Darwinian evolution aka macro evolution aka cross species evolution … and this is mankind’s attempt once again, through scientific theory, to set a false god and its idols on high and do all they can to explain away the God of the universe!

Know the foundations of your faith … and stand firm in that faith!

If you truly want to know how subatomic particles acquire mass … then consider the following truths …

God … not the big bang … created the heavens and the earth … the universe!

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.  Genesis 1:1 (ESV)

ALL things were made through Jesus and without Him NOT anything was made!

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.  ALL things were made through him, and without him was NOT anything made that was made.  John 1:1-3 (ESV)

Not only were ALL things made through Jesus but ALL things were also made for Jesus.  Also note that Jesus is before ALL things as well …

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of ALL creation.  For by him ALL things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—ALL things were created through him and for him.  And he is before ALL things, and in him ALL things hold together.  Colossians 1:15-17 (ESV)

So how are subatomic particles held together?  How do they acquire mass?

God’s Son … not a particle coming out of a theoretical big bang … is WHO holds ALL things together!

We praise you as our Almighty Creator, Lord!

About bwebbjr

A grandfather, father, husband, man, and a child of God who is following Christ Jesus and working out his salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work IN me, both to will and to work for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:12-13). I dodged my first bullet with cancer when a cancerous polyp was removed in a sigmoid colectomy surgery in August 2007. Four years later, in the midst of a second colectomy surgery we discovered I had Stage IV metastatic colon cancer. Rather than colectomy surgery I had colostomy surgery, which now means the colostomy bag is a part of my everyday life ... with the emphasis on life. God has given us a peace beyond understanding as my wife and I have traveled this journey. By the grace of God I am blessed to be a 6 plus year cancer survivor aka warrior. In writing, I am often wrestling with my own personal struggles and beliefs and in the midst God leads me to a lesson He wants me to learn ... or sometimes He simply touches me in the revelation of Himself. My hope is that the result you see here might touch your heart and glorify God. And let me be clear ... I am not the only one with something to say. Please join in the conversation sharing your faith, your cancer experiences, etc. I would love to hear from you. Bernie

  1. Evolution (and the God-particle theory) is based on a belief that all things continue as they always have done. Time has always been the same; light has always traveled at the same rate; matter has always acted as it does now.

The Apostle Peter addressed this unprovable theory of “uniformitarianism.” “Scoffers will come in the last days saying … ‘For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.’ But this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water” (2 Peter 3:4-6).

The only constant in the universe is the unchanging God and His promises. He is sovereign, not the universe He created.

Richard, thanks for this valuable content addition to this post through your comment. I especially like your closing sentences regarding the only constant in the universe … well said brother, well said!

Bernie, as man continues to discover more and more about God’s creation, he thinks that he is a god himself. Some religions even believe that God was once a man and that man can become a god and be the master of his own planet (Mormons). While the “god particle” may explain a lot to the world of science, it has no significance in determining the ultimate destiny of man. God created man as an eternal being. The Higgs boson will not have anything to do with where man will spend his eternity. Trusting God, not a god … not man … not an attempt to provide a scientific explanation of how the universe was created … but Trusting God through Jesus as Savior is the ONLY way to spend an eternity with Him forever in HIS Heaven. Loved the post. Jim D.

      Hi Jim,

It is so sad that the science once used by man to understand the world that God created has been twisted to a naturalistic field of study intent on explaining away the God of creation … I so appreciate your comment and the fact that it looks at this debate, not from the temporal perspective of man, but through the eyes of God and an eternal life perspective. Amen to that brother ,,, AMEN!
