no lost causes …

In a number of posts, I have shared entries from my Courageous Page-A-Day perpetual calendar.  That sits on my desk at work and is a constant source of encouragement throughout the work week.

Today I want to share a card from The Resolution Cards for Men (also based on the Courageous movie).  This deck of card sits on a table by my easy chair and serves to challenge and encourage on the home front.

Consider the words of the card I am meditating upon today …

No man and no family is a lost cause when God gets involved.  And since you are the one (the father) in the driver’s seat, you can become the one He uses to steer your family back onto the path that will lead them to a place of safety, strength, and health.

The Scripture they offer on the flip side of the card …

“If therefore the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.”  John 8:36 (NASB)

Instead of a place being the destination … to me it seems that path will lead to a Person …

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”  Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”  John 14:5-6 (ESV)

As fathers hoping to lead our families, our loved ones, our prodigals back onto the narrow path or even onto it for the first time; we must never forget the following regarding our ability to save ourselves or save others …

When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?”  But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”  Matthew 19:25-26 (ESV)

But with God all things are possible …

This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.  1 Timothy 2:3-4 (ESV)

And He oftentimes does the impossible through His children drawing others unto Himself …

And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.  2 Timothy:24-26 (ESV)

There are no lost causes where God is concerned …

My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.  James 5:19-20 (ESV)

Knowing that truth regarding God … there should be no lost causes where we as fathers and grandfathers are concerned …

I should know … I was 45 when God in His perfect timing answered my grandmother’s prayers regarding my salvation … never forget from where you came, where you now find yourself and Who brought you there … He longs to do that same thing again and again for others … and where fathers are concerned for your families …

And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him, if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven … Colossians 1:21-23 (ESV)

Thank you Lord!!!

About bwebbjr

A grandfather, father, husband, man, and a child of God who is following Christ Jesus and working out his salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work IN me, both to will and to work for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:12-13). I dodged my first bullet with cancer when a cancerous polyp was removed in a sigmoid colectomy surgery in August 2007. Four years later, in the midst of a second colectomy surgery we discovered I had Stage IV metastatic colon cancer. Rather than colectomy surgery I had colostomy surgery, which now means the colostomy bag is a part of my everyday life ... with the emphasis on life. God has given us a peace beyond understanding as my wife and I have traveled this journey. By the grace of God I am blessed to be a 6 plus year cancer survivor aka warrior. In writing, I am often wrestling with my own personal struggles and beliefs and in the midst God leads me to a lesson He wants me to learn ... or sometimes He simply touches me in the revelation of Himself. My hope is that the result you see here might touch your heart and glorify God. And let me be clear ... I am not the only one with something to say. Please join in the conversation sharing your faith, your cancer experiences, etc. I would love to hear from you. Bernie
