the uncontainable works and words of Jesus

As John, ‘the disciple whom Jesus loved’, was writing the final words of what would one day be known as the gospel of John … he included these three sentences.  Read and consider …

This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true.  Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.  John 21:24-25 (ESV)

Think about it … if ALL the words and works said and done by Jesus during his 30 plus year walk here on earth were recorded in books, this world could not contain all the volumes.

Now let me really blow your minds … imagine … if that record was expanded to also include everything the Father, Spirit, Son and His bride the church have done in the nearly 2,000 years since John wrote the words above …

Uncontainable …

But how in the world did John decide what to include in the book of John? Well, he actually answered that question …

Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.  John 20:30-31 (ESV)

You know Jesus offered the same focus when asked, “What must we do, to be doing the work of God?”

Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”  John 6:29 (ESV)

Are you doing the work of God?

Am I?

About bwebbjr

A grandfather, father, husband, man, and a child of God who is following Christ Jesus and working out his salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work IN me, both to will and to work for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:12-13). I dodged my first bullet with cancer when a cancerous polyp was removed in a sigmoid colectomy surgery in August 2007. Four years later, in the midst of a second colectomy surgery we discovered I had Stage IV metastatic colon cancer. Rather than colectomy surgery I had colostomy surgery, which now means the colostomy bag is a part of my everyday life ... with the emphasis on life. God has given us a peace beyond understanding as my wife and I have traveled this journey. By the grace of God I am blessed to be a 6 plus year cancer survivor aka warrior. In writing, I am often wrestling with my own personal struggles and beliefs and in the midst God leads me to a lesson He wants me to learn ... or sometimes He simply touches me in the revelation of Himself. My hope is that the result you see here might touch your heart and glorify God. And let me be clear ... I am not the only one with something to say. Please join in the conversation sharing your faith, your cancer experiences, etc. I would love to hear from you. Bernie

works oriented religion finds it hard to just ‘believe’. they even say ‘believe’ is a verb.
but no. ‘believe’ is simply ‘believe’

in the same manner, religion has question God’s power and grace to save sinners ‘without their part of good works’

now think of this. the God’s grace qualifies the sinner.
    but religion says
‘now that you are saved by grace, start good works or else….’

the bottom line is believe. the one who believes, does not ‘work for’ but is actually ‘working’ for ‘believing’ is already doing the works of God. amen

when Jesus was asked ‘what is the WILL and WORK of God’ the answer is simple ‘believe’ in the one whom God sent. to believe in Jesus.

    – grace and peace

Well said … no doubt the prince of this world delights in the conflict that man engages between religion and simple faith … when Scripture spells it out so clearly … believe in the one who God sent – believe in Jesus!

May you continue to be bold in speaking the truth!
