A few more excerpts from The Walk

No, I haven’t forgotten about sharing more from the book ‘The Walk’ by Michael Card … if you follow this blog long you will see me move all over the place according to the inspiration and leading of the Spirit in my life. But today I have a few more excerpts from this little book about a mentoring relationship between Michael Card and his mentor Bill Lane.

I really challenge you to stop and consider this next paragraph and how God has orchestrated your relationships … it’s deep and we rarely take the time to consider …

‘It is impossible to estimate the value of that moment when two lives intersect, or to determine the myriad circumstance that had to have been just so in order for one person to meet and come to know another in any given space and time.’

Oftentimes as immature Christians we have the wrong opinion of the truth we claim to believe …

‘In essence, I had been given the notion that truth is so frail and fragile, it needs to be sheltered and protected from those who would seek to shatter it with untruth. Instead, Bill would introduce me to the Truth that can stand on its own against the gates of hell itself. This Truth does not shackle a person to a lifetime of defending and protecting it. Instead, this Truth sets us free.’

“If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine;and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” John 8:31-32 (NASB)

Note the hope Jesus reveals to those who acknowledge their spiritual blindness in this next passage …

And Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, so that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may become blind.”Those of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these things and said to Him, “We are not blind too, are we?”Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but since you say, ‘We see,’ your sin remains.  John 9:39-41 (NASB)

Michael shares how his mentor Bill began to help him truly see …

‘After all, that’s one of the tasks of the discipler, to wake us up to what is really going on around us, to encourage us to take our eyes off ourselves and see that our world is not the only world. That outside the narrow confines of the self there exists a world that truly is golden. And they allow us to borrow their eyes until we can see it for ourselves.’

‘So that those who do not see may see’ … thank you Jesus!

About bwebbjr

A grandfather, father, husband, man, and a child of God who is following Christ Jesus and working out his salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work IN me, both to will and to work for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:12-13). I dodged my first bullet with cancer when a cancerous polyp was removed in a sigmoid colectomy surgery in August 2007. Four years later, in the midst of a second colectomy surgery we discovered I had Stage IV metastatic colon cancer. Rather than colectomy surgery I had colostomy surgery, which now means the colostomy bag is a part of my everyday life ... with the emphasis on life. God has given us a peace beyond understanding as my wife and I have traveled this journey. By the grace of God I am blessed to be a 6 plus year cancer survivor aka warrior. In writing, I am often wrestling with my own personal struggles and beliefs and in the midst God leads me to a lesson He wants me to learn ... or sometimes He simply touches me in the revelation of Himself. My hope is that the result you see here might touch your heart and glorify God. And let me be clear ... I am not the only one with something to say. Please join in the conversation sharing your faith, your cancer experiences, etc. I would love to hear from you. Bernie
