9/11 TEN YEARS LATER: a magazine & something to consider

Ligonier Ministries is currently offering a free download (.mobi (kindle)) of their special September 2011 edition of Tabletalk Magazine.  If you have an Amazon Kindle, you simply download (hyperlink is embedded in photo above) it to your PC and then copy to your Kindle via your USB cable.  It is absolutely loaded with interesting articles related to 9/11 by Christian preachers, teachers and articles.

Do you remember where you were when the jets struck the World Trade Center on September 11, 2011?

At the time I had been between jobs in my profession (IT Analyst) for 14 months and counting, but due to the generosity of a beloved brother IN Christ I was employed as a computer clerk and I was extremely thankful for the job.  I remember his wife had called to say a plane had just crashed into one of the towers.  So we quickly turned on a TV in the office and imagine our horrified shock as a second plane then crashed into the towers.

A meeting later that day at the Monterey Mexican Restaurant near Northlake Mall with my former bosses, Joe and Kurt, got me back in the IT profession with my former employer (after a separation of 3 years), at least on a part time basis as a consultant.  A few years later it developed into full time employment.  Ten years after 9/11, I continue to be happily employed there (for a total of nearly 30 years) and am surrounded by friends who are lifting my current needs to the Lord in prayer.  So for me, 9/11 was a day of new beginnings … Absolutely amazing!!!

OK, on a more sober note …

Per Wikipedia, the casualty count at the World Trade Centers (including the passengers on the two planes and excluding the terrorists), was 2,753 … between all the sites 2,977.  And with this attack on American soil, the United States of America was rocked to its very soul.  Within days, weeks and months our world was turned upside down at airports all over the country and the War on Terrorism began in Afghanistan and eventually spread into Iraq resulting in the execution of both Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden.

To begin with, the country was united in its response.  A bit later not so much as far-fetched conspiracies became the daily fodder of journalists everywhere.

A tragic chapter in American history … filled with many tales of heroism, sacrifice and commitment for the good of others!  The shock of that day still haunts many people who lost loved ones …

Now a bit of a different perspective for your consideration … I was reading the R.C. Sproul article ‘9/11 Ten Years Later’ in the Tabletalk magazine described above when I encountered this sentence:

“On 9/11, ten years ago, more babies were destroyed in the wombs of mothers than people were killed in the terrorist attack in New York.”

No statistics were provided, so being the ever curious sort, I set out first to find the casualty count in NYC as a result of the terrorist attack on the Twin Trade Towers … the 2,753 I shared above.

So the next step was then finding some statistics on abortion … this pdf file provided the numbers I was looking for:

On page 3 of the above report we get the following, “We estimate that the number of abortions performed in the United States in 2001 was 1,303,000.”

A little simple math:  1,303,000 abortions divided by 365 days provides us an average number of abortions per day of 3,569. (Note: Worldwide that statistic is over 100,000 per day.)

On September 11, 2011 … in NYC 2,753 via terrorism vs. in USA 3,569 via abortion … 3,569 not only on 9/11 but on each and every single day in 2011 …

I’ll let each of you draw you own conclusions on this one … I’m still considering and contemplating.

About bwebbjr

A grandfather, father, husband, man, and a child of God who is following Christ Jesus and working out his salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work IN me, both to will and to work for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:12-13). I dodged my first bullet with cancer when a cancerous polyp was removed in a sigmoid colectomy surgery in August 2007. Four years later, in the midst of a second colectomy surgery we discovered I had Stage IV metastatic colon cancer. Rather than colectomy surgery I had colostomy surgery, which now means the colostomy bag is a part of my everyday life ... with the emphasis on life. God has given us a peace beyond understanding as my wife and I have traveled this journey. By the grace of God I am blessed to be a 6 plus year cancer survivor aka warrior. In writing, I am often wrestling with my own personal struggles and beliefs and in the midst God leads me to a lesson He wants me to learn ... or sometimes He simply touches me in the revelation of Himself. My hope is that the result you see here might touch your heart and glorify God. And let me be clear ... I am not the only one with something to say. Please join in the conversation sharing your faith, your cancer experiences, etc. I would love to hear from you. Bernie
