BUSY … Burdened Under Satan’s Yoke

Family time devotionals and the following conversations between my grandson, my wife and me can be quite interesting …

Today’s conversation centered around making time to hear God’s still small voice.  For a nearly-ten-year-old that time can come through the Christian music and episodes of Odyssey he listens to, by meditating on short passages of Scripture, thru his conversations with my wife and me about things of the faith and the spirit, and by realizing that prayer is actual more about listening than speaking.

What might you add as ways for a child to hear the voice of God?

So currently my grandson is suffering from an obsession with all things electronic … he will literally bounce from computer to TV to Nintendo Wii absolutely all day long … and he totally freaks when those more senior and in authority choose to disrupt and derail his obsession …

So my wife tried to introduce the concept of BUSY or Burdened Under Satan’s Yoke … to reveal how his  obsession with electronics was distracting him from the main thing … his relationship with Christ Jesus.

What we failed to consider … not many nearly-ten-year-olds know what a yoke is or how it is used … so a new tact was in order …

“You understand that Satan doesn’t really care if you choose him, he just want to distract you from Christ Jesus and/or your commitment to Christ Jesus.”

“It’s not a matter of choosing Satan or choosing Jesus.”

“It’s a matter of responding to God’s call on your life and being committed to Him … or not.”

“Satan simply wants to undermine your faith or prevent you from ever walking in faith IN Christ Jesus.”

“Your obsession with electronics is a part of the BUSY strategy.”

He seemed to understand that … of course understanding and applying and trusting and depending on Christ in the battle is something else altogether … help him Lord!

Whoever is not with me (Jesus) is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.  Matthew 12:30, Luke 11:23 (ESV)

Blessings to you and yours!

A grandfather, father, husband, man, child of God who is following Christ Jesus and working out his salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in me, both to will and to work for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:12-13) Member @12Stone Church Flowery Branch. In August 2011, in the midst of a colectomy surgery it was discovered and later confirmed that I had Stage IV metastatic colon cancer. The colectomy surgery instead became a colostomy surgery, which now means the colostomy bag is a part of my everyday life ... with the emphasis on life. God has given us a peace beyond understanding as my wife and I enter into this new stage of our life together. On September 26 I went through my first chemotherapy treatment. As a result, the subject matter and tone of this blog has changed a bit from its inception just a short time ago. In writing, I am often wrestling with my own personal struggles and beliefs and in the midst God leads me to a lesson He wants me to learn ... or sometimes He simply touches me in the revelation of Himself. My hope is that the result you see here might touch your heart and glorify God. And let me be clear ... I am not the only one with something to say. Please join in the conversation sharing your faith, your cancer experiences, etc. I would love to hear from you. Bernie

  1. Maybe he needs a blog, LOL. But that’s electronic, too. Keep up the good work, Bernie, and the reward will be a Godly legacy.

Oh, if I could only get him to write for a blog I’d be a happy camper. He sees the computer as an avenue to games and the marketing videos for new toys … pretty smart … but I would like to expand his horizons … I have visions of a 34-yr-old grandson living in my house obsessed with gaming … made even more real by a ex-39-yr-old-son-in-law now living in his mother’s basement who is a gamer and is raising our 2 year old grandson. So my wife and I train him up in the way he should go and hope for the Godly legacy. I so appreciate the encouragement! Bernie
