check out the homemade Renaissance Festival attire

My youngest daughter and her boyfriend are at the Georgia Renaissance Festival today … this is the third time my daughter has gone and she went all out this year on their costumes … check out a couple of pictures.

  • My daughter made all the chain mail from Coke can pop tabs … yes, that’s a ton of pop tabs and it took a lot of time.  She started making all this after we all went to the festival last year
  • Her tiara is of her own design and construction
  • She also made her boyfriend’s leather shoulder guard, his wrist protector (not shown), and his belt pouch
  • Other accessories not shown: They both will have ocarinas (and are quite talented at playing them) along with daggers (complete with scabbards)

  • She also made the shoulder dragons as well … shaping and making them out of clay and then putting together a pretty cool magnet system that keeps then sitting firmly on their shoulders

This is the first trip to the Renaissance Festival I am missing … but all this talk of it has me pulling out my Tartanic CD and playing it full blast … love the drums and bagpipes … yes bagpipes.

Meanwhile two of the granddaughters are also here with us today as their mom is off working the Man Olympics 2012 in Suwanee, GA for Breast Cancer Awareness (Real Men Wear Pink).

What a day!

A grandfather, father, husband, man, child of God who is following Christ Jesus and working out his salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in me, both to will and to work for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:12-13) Member @12Stone Church Flowery Branch. In August 2011, in the midst of a colectomy surgery it was discovered and later confirmed that I had Stage IV metastatic colon cancer. The colectomy surgery instead became a colostomy surgery, which now means the colostomy bag is a part of my everyday life ... with the emphasis on life. God has given us a peace beyond understanding as my wife and I enter into this new stage of our life together. On September 26 I went through my first chemotherapy treatment. As a result, the subject matter and tone of this blog has changed a bit from its inception just a short time ago. In writing, I am often wrestling with my own personal struggles and beliefs and in the midst God leads me to a lesson He wants me to learn ... or sometimes He simply touches me in the revelation of Himself. My hope is that the result you see here might touch your heart and glorify God. And let me be clear ... I am not the only one with something to say. Please join in the conversation sharing your faith, your cancer experiences, etc. I would love to hear from you. Bernie

Very creative. Shows a very mature level of patience and dedication to the task. Am I wrong about her diligence when she really wants to do something. Shows strong motivation. This is the kind of young person I would have wanted to hire in my working career. My compliments. Jim davenport

Jim, both my daughter and I thank you for your encouraging words. Your assessment on her diligence is spot on … “when she really wants to do something”. Then her motivation makes her virtually unstoppable and the sky is indeed the limit.

Hope and pray that all is well for you, Charlotte and family my brother!

    Bernie,
This is amazing work, and I’m thinking a lot of people that they meet at the fair just might want her to make something for them. Could be the start of a successful business.

Not sure which daughter this is, but please tell her that I am impressed!

    Your Sister,

    Anne

Thanks Anne … you just would not believe how many hours Kerstyn has put into these costumes … especially the chain mail. She did indeed get a lot of complements and encouragement at the fair … mostly from the crafters and other merchants. So it may very well morph into a business … she came home telling we she might start a business and travel around the country from one Renaissance Festival to another … only time will tell. I have passed on your complements.

  3. WOW!!! I am very impressed! She should certainly enter some kind of contest! This is truly creative talent!

LOVE it!!!! :) Wonderful job, Kerstyn! :) I can only imagine the time that went into making everything. Very, very nice.

Thanks Carrie … passing the good word on to Kerstyn. And yes, she did indeed invest a great deal of time (months) into the chain mail.
